‘Sublime and stimulating Jazz’ Paul Ellis, Buckland Festival
Ruth Applin – Piano/Vocals
Josh Kemp – Tenor Saxophone
Julian Bury – Double Bass
Les Cirkel – Drums
In this Celebration of the Great Female Jazz Singers, Singer/Pianist Ruth Applin and her trio, will take you on a journey through some of the Classic and best loved songs from the Great American Songbook. Swing lightly with Ella Fitzgerald, ‘Sassy’ Sarah Vaughan, and the elegant Peggy Lee, feel the blues of Etta James and enjoy the lilting latin songs of Astrud Gilberto. This promises to be a musical journey celebrating the wonderful melody of song, and the memory of the great singers that contributed to the pantheon of vocal jazz. Expect well-known classics, as well as some lesser known gems among the repertoire of this performance.
For this concert, Ruth will be joined by her quartet including acclaimed saxophonist Josh Kemp – ‘Wonderfully rich toned…a nuanced and original sound,’ (Time Out), together with the swinging rhythm section of Julian Bury on double bass and Les Cirkel on drums.
